    Our Ministries

    Kings Kidz represents a non-traditional approach to Sunday Church School.  Kings Kidz provides spiritual formation for toddler age children via Sunday school lessons, healthy snacks while utilizing youth between 12 and 18 as teachers/instructors for the program.  Classes are hosted during each Sunday Worship Experience except for 1st Sunday in the month.  Classes are opened to members and non-members of

    Vernon Temple.  With currently 40 person already enrolled, Kings Kidz is poised to reenergize the church, while participants engage in the music department and YPD. Membership is also open to the community at large.

     

     

    The CWIA are a very active organization which defines, enhances, and supports the women of the AME Church, through spiritual enrichment. With a current membership of 50 persons, the CWIA meets once per month on a Saturday at 12pm to discuss its progress and concerns of their membership. Having just implemented a women’s Study Cell Group, CWIA has a strong mandate to help women connect to Jesus Christ while connecting with each other. All our welcome to come and participate and join

     

     

    The Sarah Allen Women’s Missionary Society is a church wide organization that engages all women of the church, with the exception of women who serve as Itinerate Elders.  The SAWMS assumes the responsibility of the YPD and to coordinate and unify the work of our mission structure, by supporting organizations and units to carry out God’s mission in the church and community. (AME Discipline, pg 296)  Currently there are 29 members who meet monthly on the 4th Monday at 7pm.

     

     

    The Lay Organization purpose is to instill in its members a love and appreciation for the history, tradition and principles of the AME through systematic and regular study providing a greater knowledge and participation for the membership. (AME Discipline, pg 71)  Currently there are 62 members who meet monthly on the 4th Sunday after the 10am morning service.

     

     

    The Sons of Allen ministry is a concentrated focus of encouraging men to become involved in helping other men find Christ in their lives. (AME Discipline, pg 75) . The Sons of Allen are 62 members strong and are consistent with their fellowship and spiritual empowerment breakfast, every 1st Sunday in the month. They are opened to men of all ages to participate and grow together in spiritual formation.

     

     

    Christian Ed is to ensure the educational needs of the church are met by correlating with various agencies in providing educational programs, recommending new and working with curricula that has been already established by the Division of Christian Education; the supervision of the recruitment, training and assignment of Christian education workers in the local church. (AME Discipline, pg 76)

     

     

    The Music Ministry team consists of the Mass Choir, Men’s

    Chorus, Women’s Choir, Youth of Authority & Templelite Choirs, Praise Team, Musicians Ministry, Audio & Visual Ministry.  Rehearsals for each choir component are held on various evenings during the week.  See the Bulletin Board in the Lower Fellowship Hall.  There are no age limits for this ministry.  If you are called to be a part of the music ministry, you are welcomed to join.

    Stewards are appointed by the Pastor and may serve for a term of one year.  The same person(s) can be nominated annually. To be qualified to serve in this capacity, one must be of solid piety, know and love the Word of God, the AME Church and her doctrine. He or she must be fruitful and of good natural or acquired ability to transact the spiritual and temporal business of the church. (AME Discipline, pg 61)  There are several other requirements see pages 65- 66.  The Steward Board in conjunction with the Pastor is responsible for the spiritual direction of the Church.

     

    To be elected as a Trustee, one must be over 18yrs of age, in good and regular standing with the Church and a member of Vernon for at least two years. (AME Discipline, pg 63)   The primary responsibility of an elected Trustee is to oversee the temporal concerns of the church.  For example, building structures, grounds and maintenance of the Church. 

     

     

    The main function of this board is to assist the Stewards in the discharge of their duties relative to the ritual of baptism and the Lord’s Supper by providing the implements and elements of the Holy Communion and Holy Baptism.  Should you have a desire to serve in this capacity, make your desire known to the President and they will advise the Pastor.  The position of Stewardess is an appointment confirmed by the Steward Board. (AME Discipline, pg66)

    The Word of God reminds us that, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the

    house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Ps 84:10. 

    Ushering requires one to be a person of piety and who commits

    to a strong prayer life and reading of God’s Word.  As a doorkeeper,

    the usher/greeter helps to promote a spirit of readiness for all who

    comes through the doors of the church.Their ministry helps to set the

    worship tone For our members and visitors.  More ushers/greeters are

    welcomed.

     

     

    The Alliance consists of all ordained clergy and every person who has been licensed to preach in the East West District of the Bermuda Annual Conference and is a member of Vernon Temple. Their primary function is to support the ministry of Vernon Temple.

    Vernon Temple YPD’ers are a very active and effective youth ministry for persons between ages 2 and 26.   With a current membership of 38 persons, the YPD and its leadership is committed in meeting our youth with weekly planned activity on Fridays from 7pm – 9:30pm.  We are commissioned under the Sarah Allen Women’s Missionary Society.  Our purpose is to implement a missionary program on the local church level.  All are welcome to come and participate and join.
